Offence: Tarnishing a previous Company’s Reputation
Offender: Marketing Executive
Details: The relationship between most Gen-Y’s and their need for communication and expression through different channels of social media are needless to say, an indispensable part of their lives. Whether it is about their social activities, views and opinions on current issues and topics, or even a declaration of what was eaten for dinner, Facebook or Twitter or other personal blogs can provide a good indication to events and timeline on an individual’s life. This of course, does not exclude how they feel about their work. One of our most recent cases involved a candidate of an Advertising company who constantly wrote in her blog about how bad work is. Besides criticizing colleagues’ competency and the management’s inefficiency at her previous work place, she also found faults with ex-clients’ decision-making skills and (unfortunately) in the process revealed confidential marketing activities, some which had not been officially implemented or launched yet. This slandering was exactly the reason why this Advertising Company decided against hiring her, despite her qualifications and expertise. It’s surprising how a simple cyber vetting media search, a quick yet potentially crucial type of background screening, allows so much insight into an individual nowadays.
